The Tutors & ‘What you’ll work on’

Sally Knyvette

Sally Knyvette

Actor, Director, Tutor

Sally Knyvette is an accomplished actor, director and tutor. She has worked as a regular on Emmerdale and in the 1970s series ‘Blake’s Seven’ which most of you won’t remember but I loved it as a kid (ask your parents!) She regularly directs theatre productions at The Tricycle Theatre, the Finborough Arms and runs a Shakespeare residential week course in sunny Italy. In this class we’ll work on our approach to a text, in particular, what’s the best way to attack a script once you’ve got the part. We’ll look at the many questions to ask, how to mark up the script, phrasing, actioning the lines, breathing, character and so on. The session will also help with sight reading –a truly enlivening class!

Val Colgan

Val Colgan

Actor, Tutor

Val Colgan, familiar to all of you from the 12 week LAW course, has appeared in many productions including ‘Alien’ & ‘Saving Private Ryan’, and tutors privately as well as sitting on the boards of various theatrical institutions. Val will work on the ‘Uta Hagen’ Method made famous in the 1973 book ‘Respect for Acting’. Uta Hagen was a phenomenal actor who won many awards and developed a set of techniques particularly useful for up close screen work but also of course ‘acting’ in general. The book is well worth purchasing.

Daniel Dresner

Daniel Dresner

Actor, Tutor

Daniel Dresner Daniel has a strong, no-nonsense approach to acting on screen and as well as being an accomplished actor/tutor/director is also now a ‘life coach’ helping actors develop within our overcrowded industry. We’ll work on pre-learnt scripts and really get behind the actors’ and the characters’ thought process. Detailed work so please learn the scripts!

Ariella Eshed

Ariella Eshed

Director, Tutor

Ariella has extensive experience as director and has worked at Lyric Hammersmith, Soho Theatre, Hampstead Theatre, King’s Head, and the Union Theatre, to name but a few. In 2005 she set up her own theatre company ‘Tik-sho-ret’, Hebrew for ‘Communication’. In this class we’ll work on ‘Michael Chekhov techniques’ and focus on Archetypes, Tensions and, if time, Elements. Excellent for ‘building a character’.
