Booking An Acting Course with LAW - Everything You Need to Know
We teach everything we think a modern-day Actor needs:
Screen Acting, Voice, Shakespeare, Method Acting, Improvisation, Script Analysis, Developing Your Emotional Range, Stanislavsky, Stage & Screen Combat, How to Audition for Commercials, How to Audition for Screen, Recording a Self Tape (weekly practice), Learning & Performing Monologues and Duologues, How the Acting Business Works and putting together an Acting Resume and Online Presence.
In addition to this, our Courses, depending on which one you choose, include Casting Director Workshops, Recording a Showreel Scene, and the option to get Professional Headshots taken at an excellent discounted rate.
Anyone over 17 years old (no upper age limit), adult actors, beginner actors and those who have taken a career break or need to refresh and sharpen their pre-existing skills. If you consider yourself a highly experienced actor and have Spotlight credentials, you could consider our 5-week Advanced Course.
The Advanced Acting Course is open to anyone who has completed our 12-week Course or who is an experienced Actor with a strong Spotlight or Mandy portfolio of work.
This Course is not for those who are just starting out on their Acting journey. If you are a beginner, or have taken a few short courses and are keen to experience more, we'd recommend our One-Day Acting Class or our 12-week Acting Course.
The One Day Acting Class is for anyone above the age of 17. You can be a beginner, adult, experienced, or inexperienced actor. There is something for everyone. This one-day class is an intensive six-hour introduction to Acting for those new to it. At the same time, it allows more experienced actors to sharpen and practise pre-existing skills in a welcoming, relaxed, and vibrant environment.
It's never too late to start something new and exciting! Our age range on the Course is 17 and above (our oldest Actor, so far, is 74 years old). Our more mature Actors often do very well when beginning or revisiting a creative pursuit as they are usually more settled in life, perhaps less stressed financially and able to commit to weekend classes.
As part of our 12 Week & Advanced Acting Courses, we script, record and edit professionally filmed Duologue Showreel scenes, plus a self-taped Monologue, which we then send to 400+ Agents and 200+ Casting Directors on your behalf. Whilst we cannot guarantee representation, this process has resulted in over 100 previous LAW actors securing an agent. You can find our recent success on our How to Get An Acting Agent page.
Generally speaking, we tend to see 3-5 Actors secure an agent per 20 actors completing our 12-Week Course, which is a phenomenal result in a highly competitive industry.
You will record a Showreel scene as part of our 12-week Acting Course for Film & TV and our 5-week Advanced Course. We will provide the scripts and allocate time within the course to rehearse for filming the scene in the final week of each course. The footage will be professionally filmed and edited by our resident cinematographer and editor. For examples of previous Showreels, head to our Showreel page on the website.
We have 3 Casting Director Workshops in the second half of our 12-week Acting Course for film and TV.
Scripts will be sent to you in pairs, and you'll read/perform for the Casting Director. This will be followed by feedback and an Industry Q&A. It's a practical way to gain invaluable, first-hand working knowledge from busy Casting personnel and get on their radar for future opportunities.
Yes, indeed. There are many great headshot photographers in the UK, and we have a good relationship with Mark Davis, who is at https://mad-photography.co.uk/.
Mark's visits to the Studio early in the course are a great opportunity for our Actors to get their headshots at a brilliant discount. Furthermore, he offers super-discounted sessions for those who prefer a longer session at his North London studio, an excellent option for cost-conscious LAW actors.
We call these sessions ‘The Business of Acting’, and they are INVALUABLE to you.
Each week, we explore a different aspect of the Acting Business (Casting Types, Headshots, Showreels and more) with the help of special Guest Speakers. They will guide you in setting career goals, mastering Social Media, and building a network. Our unique weekly Self Tape exercise, where everyone tapes the same short scene and we review and provide feedback together in a supportive and positive manner, is an opportunity to hone your skills. The diverse interpretations are always enlightening, and we all learn from each other.
We invite you to submit scripts that you might like to film. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of Jon Sidgwick, Course Director, aided by the Cinematographer and Editor Sushant Nair. Jon will write or adapt scenes from TV, Film, & Theatre and cast you with a scene partner (another group member). You’ll work on these characters and all aspects of the scene, rehearse and then film them. Once edited, you’ll receive the clips, and we’ll send them out to the Industry and post them all over our Socials.
We hire an excellent Studio in Endell Street, Covent Garden in Central London, right in the middle of Theatre Land (2 minutes walk from Covent Garden tube, 3 mins from Tottenham Court Road, 7 mins from Leicester Square tube)
Yes, we are on the ground floor and have excellent wheelchair access. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

For our One-Day Course, we cannot offer refunds, as £35 of your fee is committed to a local charity.
For our 12-week and 5-week courses, we have a 10-day no-quibble refund policy unless the 10-day cooling-off period overlaps with the start of the course. If the course starts within those 10 days, we will refund the total amount minus the number of weeks the course has been running. However, if the course has been running for 2 weeks or more, we cannot offer refunds as we cannot re-allocate your slot to another actor. The first 2 weeks are essential to the successful completion of the course.
Yes, you can pay in instalments. We can split the payment for our 12-week or 5-week course into 3 instalments. (e.g. Paypal Pay in 3 via the website) Please contact us here if you would like to arrange an instalment plan.
Ok, really sorry about that; contact us here, and we will sort the issue for you.
No worries. If you contact us more than 10 days before the course starts, we can transfer your booking to a later date.
If London Actors Workshop cancels the course, we will issue a full refund within 7 days of announcing the cancellation. If you'd rather transfer your booking to a future date, we can also arrange that.
As soon as you know you will have to miss a class, please contact course director Jon Sidgwick as quickly as possible. Non-attendance could potentially impact your fellow students, especially if we have been preparing scripts on your behalf. With plenty of notice, we can make alternative arrangements.
Our goal is for you to enjoy acting training with the London Actors Workshop. Therefore, if you feel that the level of the course is not appropriate, we will be happy to discuss the best options for you.
Please note if two weeks or more of either our 12-week or 5-week course have been completed we will be unable to issue a refund (please see our refund policy). However, we can discuss a credit for the course you are moving to.
Please contact course director Jon Sidgwick as soon as possible to discuss your options.
Our courses are unaccredited, so we do not issue a formal qualification. However, practical experience and learning new skills will make you a better actor, not a piece of paper. Your Showreel, filmed by us, the Headshots and Online CV are your legitimate entry into the Acting World. That said, we are happy to issue a certificate of completion if needed.
Our 12-Week Course generally runs three times a year, starting in January, April, and September. Our Advance is also typically three times a year, starting in February, May, and October. Our One-Day Classes are all year round, and we tend to announce new dates every three months. So, essentially, three is the magic number!
We donate £35 from every actor who attends our One Day Acting Class and we support a different cause each time.
So far we have supported: Woman’s Trust // Centre Point // Coram Children’s Charity // Mind // Coeliac UK // Samaritans // Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity // London Youth // Women & Health // St. Mungo's // The Lily Foundation // Myeloma UK // Shelter // Centrepoint // Myeloma UK // Kids Cancer Charity // Haven House Children's Hospice
To date we have raised over £3500 for Charity.
Since London Actors Workshop was founded in 2005, we have trained close to 3000 actors, many of whom have had very successful careers in the industry.
Jon Sidgwick is the Owner and Course Director. He is also a working Actor. For more on Jon and his experience as an Actor, head to his profile here.
